Solution-Focused Therapy:
Small Steps, Meaningful Change

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is a brief, goal-oriented approach that focuses on what’s working, rather than what’s wrong. It helps clients identify their strengths, build on past successes, and create small, manageable steps toward their preferred future—without needing to revisit every detail of the problem.

At Wellness Counselling Centre, we use Solution-Focused Therapy to help clients regain a sense of momentum, clarity, and confidence in their ability to move forward.

How Solution-Focused Therapy Can Help

This approach supports individuals in:

  • Identifying and building on their existing strengths

  • Clarifying goals and what “better” would look like

  • Breaking down big challenges into small, achievable steps

  • Moving forward without feeling stuck in the past

  • Increasing motivation and hope

  • Reframing problems in more empowering ways

Rather than focusing on what’s wrong, this therapy emphasizes what’s already working—and how to do more of it.

Who Can Benefit from Solution-Focused Therapy

Solution-Focused Therapy is suitable for a wide range of clients, including:

  • Adults and teens seeking short-term, practical support

  • Children and families navigating challenges at school or home

  • Couples working through communication or parenting issues

  • Clients facing burnout, indecision, or stress

  • Parents or professionals looking for tools to support others

This approach works well on its own or in combination with other modalities.

What to Expect in Solution-Focused Therapy

SFT is future-focused and collaborative. In therapy, you can expect to:

  • Set goals that are meaningful and specific to you

  • Identify your resources, strengths, and past successes

  • Envision what change would look like in everyday life

  • Explore “exceptions” to the problem—times when things were going well

  • Create action steps that feel realistic and empowering

Even small shifts can lead to meaningful change.

Our Approach to Solution-Focused Therapy

At Wellness Counselling Centre, we integrate Solution-Focused Therapy with other modalities to support a well-rounded, personalized experience:

  • Strengths-Based Therapy – Focusing on what you do well and value most

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Challenging unhelpful thinking patterns

  • Mindfulness-Based Therapy – Supporting calm, presence, and perspective

  • Humanistic Therapy – Emphasizing personal growth, self-worth, and authentic choice

  • Narrative Therapy – Reframing how you see yourself and your story

Our trauma-informed approach is always collaborative, respectful, and empowering—we walk alongside you, not ahead of you.

Focus on What’s Possible

Solution-Focused Therapy offers practical tools and empowering conversations that support your next step—whatever that may be.
